First Trip To Montenegro
In November 2006, I went to Montenegro for the first time. I drove across the Croatian and Bosnian border from Dubrovnik airport into a typically beautiful Balkan atmosphere, with glorious mountains and verdant vegetation all around me as the sun was about to set.

After driving for more than an hour, mostly in the dark, I arrived at the interesting yet tiny city of Kotor. Then, continuing around the Bay of Kotor a bit further, I reached my accommodation for the night
Hotel Splendido, which at the time was the only hotel in the entire region.

For days, I wandered around Montenegro's winding, deserted roads in the lovely, warm sunshine, amazed at the absolutely incredible scenery all around me. At the same time, I was getting to know the rather cautious, but once they got to know you, extremely friendly and caring local people. I quickly realised I had fallen completely in love with the place.

Previous Yugoslavian Holiday
I visited Hvar, what was then Yugoslavia and is now Croatia, about 35 years ago with my parents, brothers, and sister on a summer holiday.

I remember landing at the airport in Split and taking a very fast boat to our hotel, the
Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort, which is still a good hotel to this day.

We had a really great holiday there, but I've never been back since.

What Montenegro Has To Offer
Since my very first visit, I have travelled all over Montenegro and discovered that, although it's a tiny country, it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

It offers just about everything you could want: five truly wonderful national parks with picturesque mountain ranges, ski resorts, endless panoramic views of unspoiled natural beauty, a lovely coastline featuring 117 clean Adriatic beaches, the medieval city of
Kotor, the beautiful town of Perast, numerous important cultural sites, and a warm to hot climate with 260 sunny days a year.
